Sales of printed books in the US fell
The world's largest publishing market has experienced a significant decline compared to 2021. "The book sales boom is over," said Publishers Weekly.
According to data from NPD BookScan - a unit specializing in publishing market statistics - in the first quarter of this year, unit sales of printed books in the US decreased by 8.9% compared to the same period in 2021. Total book sales reached 183.9 million copies, down from 201.9 million in the first quarter of 2021.
Publishers Weekly magazine attributed the decline in sales to the strong growth of the US book market in the first four months of 2021 compared to 2020. However, the number of books sold this year still increased by 16% compared to the first quarter of 2020. .
